NEW YORK (JTA) — An interdenominational group of rabbis from Los Angeles left for Israel.
The group of Orthodox, Conservative and Reform rabbis from Los Angeles departed for Israel Monday on a joint tour aimed at sending a message of interdenominational unity.
The delegation includes Rabbi Marvin Hier, dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and Rabbi Denise Eger, president of the Board of Rabbis of Southern California and a leader of the Jewish lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
During its three-day tour the group will attend a memorial service for assassinated Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and meet with Israeli President Shimon Peres.
The mission was initiated by the Consulate General of Israel in Los Angeles and is being led by Consul General Jacob Dayan.
