To the Editor:
I would like to have that teacher explain how she can say “the Holocaust did not happen when more than 7 million Jews plus Catholics, Gypsies and others were murdered by the Nazis. I also wish to add I was born in Berlin, Germany, only one day before Hitler became chancellor.
I lived in the underground from 1943 until my arrest on April 15, 1945, when I was shipped to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp (the camp is a tourist site today). In my family only my brother and I came out alive.
I would also like to know what this teacher has done for the United States. I enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the Korean conflict, where I also received a battlefield commission. My brother went in the U.S. Army a year later. He did not evade the draft, but rather made the Army his career and proudly served a year-and-a-half in Vietnam during that war. He retired from the Army after serving this GREAT COUNTRY for 22 years.
This teacher had better go to Auschwitz, Poland, Dachau, Sachsenhausen and many sites in Berlin where she can learn and see about the Holocaust. She can visit the German Resistance Movement — Germans who risked their lives and the lives of their families to help people like my brother and me and many others who lived in the underground to keep from being murdered by the Nazis.
