JERUSALEM (JTA) — Nine Palestinian youths were arrested for throwing rocks at police in eastern Jerusalem.
The Palestinians were arrested Tuesday after two days of violence by the rock throwers in the Shuafat neighborhood.
Five police officers were wounded Monday. Palestinians reported that 10 Palestinians were injured, according to Haaretz.
Some 34 Palestinians in Shuafat have been arrested since Monday, when police escorted municipal workers into the area, including tax collection officials to collect payment of delinquent municipal taxes and other bills.
Police had to escort the municipal workers into the area again Tuesday and Wednesday to begin repairing the damage caused during the two days of rioting. No violence was reported Wednesday.
