To the Editor:
The decision to announce the new eastern Jerusalem settlements during Vice President Biden’s visit is obviously a slap in the face to the U.S. meant to embarrass the Obama administration. If Prime Minister Netanyahu was unaware of this timing, he should speak out publicly ASAP to denounce the Interior Ministry for its announcement at this time.
I understand Israel’s internal politics regarding, in particular, eastern Jerusalem settlements. Nevertheless, this action is inexcusable.
Needless to say, as a former chairman of my local Jewish federation and longtime supporter of Israel, I am very upset at Israel’s actions in this instance. I would expect Israel to offer no less than a formal, diplomatic apology to the United States for embarrassing Mr. Biden and our country today.
