WASHINGTON (JTA) — The Jewish Council for Public Affairs called the Presbyterian Church USA’s report on the Middle East anti-Israel.
The report, titled “Breaking Down the Walls,” is to be debated at the church’s General Assembly later this year.
JCPA said the report is “blatantly anti-Israel and reduces the Arab-Israeli-Palestinian conflict to a caricature of right and wrong.” The group said the report "makes highly selective use of sacred texts, historical events, and current realities to build a narrative against the Jewish state."
The Presbyterian group sparked controversy on Israel in 2004 when its General Assembly approved divesting church money from Israel. The church changed its position in 2006, calling for the church to use its money in the Middle East to promote regional peace.
