JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Jewish group filed two more claims in an attempt to evict Palestinian families from homes in an eastern Jerusalem neighborhood that documents show are Jewish-owned.
The claims, against homes in the Arab neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, were filed in Jerusalem Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday by a Jewish group called Nahalat Shimon Hatzadik; the claims are based on Ottoman-era documents that say the properties belonged to Jews a century ago, Haaretz reported.
So far, Palestinian families in three Sheikh Jarrah homes have been evicted based on the documents. Four more families have been ordered evacuated by Israeli judges and six cases are still being decided, according to Ynet.
The homes named in the new claim are next to a house from which Palestinians already have been evicted and Jewish families have moved in.
