Long-Ago Issues

The article on Archbishop Timothy Dolan’s meeting with Jewish leaders (“Dolan Steers Clear Of Troubling Issues,” April 30) raised the question why Dolan didn’t discuss the Inquisition or the Crusades.

Quite frankly, when Catholics read something like this they are left bewildered, if not angry. Why the archbishop of New York needs to discuss events that took place centuries ago when seeking good relations between Catholics and Jews today is not something Catholics can understand, and it is hardly the way to win friends. I hasten to add, however, that The Jewish Week, unlike some of its competitors, has a good record of treating Catholics fairly, thus discounting this unfortunate comment.
