JERUSALEM (JTA) — Palestinian officials are alleging that a Palestinian teen throwing rocks at Israeli cars near Ramallah was shot and killed by a Jewish driver.
Thousands attended the funeral last Friday for Aysar Yasser al-Zaben, 16. He was one of three Palestinian teens throwing stones at cars on Route 60 between Ramallah and the Jewish settlement of Ofra. The teens fled when an Israeli driver got out of his car and began shooting in the direction from which the stones came, but Zaben was shot in the back, according to Israeli media reports citing Palestinian sources.
A joint Israeli-Palestinian task force has been set up to investigate the shooting. The shooter has not been identified. A rare autopsy conducted in a Palestinian hospital retrieved the bullets used in the killing.
Several hours after the incident, an Israeli woman was injured when she was shot riding in a car.
On Friday, a 75-year-old Palestinian was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers near the Gaza border fence. The man had approached the fence and did not turn back when warning shots were fired, Haaretz reported. Security forces then fired a mortar at the man, who was unarmed.
