Plans for a Jewish day school in Pinellas County, Fla., collapsed this week after the school could not attract enough students, leaving the area outside of Tampa with no Jewish school.
A group of parents had been trying to start The Tampa Bay Jewish Academy in Clearwater, which would have replaced the recently closed Pinellas County Jewish Day School, but the prospective school was only able to attract 10 students, when it needed at least 30 to break even, according to The St. Petersburg Times.
The Pinellas County school closed last year after 30 years, due to severe financial difficulty.
According to the St. Petersburg Times, most of the school’s students have enrilled in public schools, while more than 20 students ended up at Hillel School of Tampa, with the help of scholarships from the Jewish Federation of Pinellas & Pasco Counties.
