JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli police demolished buildings in an unrecognized Bedouin village in the Negev for the fifth time.
Residents of the Al-Arakib village began rebuilding their homes Sunday night after Israel Lands Administration officials accompanied by police razed the homes that have been rebuilt four times. The demolition came a day after the three-day Muslim festival Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
In the first demolition order carried out July 27, some 1,300 police escorted Israel Lands Administration officials into Al-Arakib before dawn, removing the area’s 300 residents before razing 45 structures, including homes and chicken coops.
The village was demolished for the fourth time at the beginning of Ramadan.
