I want to thank you, as an LDS (Mormon) person, for the intelligent and wonderful article you wrote in The Jewish Week on this subject of proxy Baptism (“Mormons, Jews In New Pact On Baptisms,” Sept. 3).
I am greatly relieved that the LDS church has resolved this issue. It’s been weighing heavily on my mind and heart for years. I feel a great kinship with my Jewish friends and am philosophically united with the Jewish people on most all approaches to living, as you most adeptly articulated in your article. Thank you for your generosity to the Jewish community and, by spiritual extension, mine. We are all God’s children when it all comes down to it and must respect each other’s wishes and empathize with the other’s pain, whatever it takes.
