JERUSALEM (JTA) — Two Israeli Arabs from Nazareth, including an imam, were arrested on suspicion of supporting terror and plotting crimes.
Sheik Nazem Abu Salim is the imam of a well-known Nazareth mosque and is known to hold radical views. Several of his younger worshipers reportedly have ties to al-Qaida.
The men are accused of supporting terror groups, forming an illegal organization and plotting to commit crimes, according to information released Wednesday.
Other details of the case are under a gag order issued by the Nazareth Magistrate’s Court.
Two Israeli Arabs were arrested last week charged with storing weapons for and trying to recruit other Israeli Arabs to the terrorist Hamas organization.
