Maybe not such a blodbath. AP calls Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.), a Jewish incumbent, in Kentucky — an especially difficult state for Dems, and in a seat that Yarmuth picked up from the GOP in 2006.
CNN calls Maryland for Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.). No big surprise. Mikulski is a leader in securing Homeland Security funding for enhancing security at non-profits. Most of these funds have gone to Jewish institutions.
CNN also calls Delaware’s only House seat for John Carney, a Democrat. It’s an anticipated pickup for Dems — he replaces moderate GOP Rep. Mike Castle, who failed in his bid for the Senate — but it also means that the GOP now needs 40 seats to win back the House.
Castle, famously, lost to Christine O’Donnell in the primaries; the nets now declare Delaware for Chris Coons, the Democratic candidate.
Nets also are declaring Florida’s U.S. Senate seat for Marco Rubio, Tea Party-backed Cuban-American.
