JERUSALEM (JTA) — The ski season in Israel began a month early with the opening of the Hermon Mountain ski slopes.
A weekend storm throughout Israel dumped nearly 60 inches on the mountain, leading to the opening of the ski site on Wednesday.
It was the first time in four years that skiing in Israel has opened in December and not January, according to Haaretz. Last year, snow only fell on the mountain twice and there were just six days of skiing.
Some 1,500 visitors to the site were expected on opening day.
