JERUSALEM (JTA) — The family and supporters of convicted spy for Israel Jonathan Pollard have called on President Obama to allow him to visit his dying father.

Morris Pollard’s organs have shut down following medical treatment. The 95-year-old is in an Indiana hospital.

Activists on behalf of Jonathan Pollard have contacted government officials in the United States and Israel in an effort to get Pollard compassionate leave to see his father.

Pollard, who is serving a life sentence in a federal prison in Butner, N.C., was allowed to make an emergency call to his father, but Morris Pollard was too weak to speak on the telephone.

Pollard was a civilian U.S. Navy analyst when he was arrested in 1985 for spying for Israel.
