(JTA) — Four men, including two who allegedly are members of Hezbollah, were indicted in the assassination of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
A United Nations-appointed special tribunal based in The Hague handed over the indictments Thursday to Lebanese prosecutors.
Hariri was assassinated in February 2005 when his motorcade was bombed in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. Hezbollah has blamed the slaying on Israel.
Hezbollah in January brought down the government led by Hariri’s son, Saad, after he refused to stop cooperating with the U.N.’s Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
Hezbollah, which is part of the current government, rejected the indictments.
One of those indicted is said to be Moustapha Badreddine, brother-in-law of Imad Muginyeh, a Hezbollah commander who was killed in 2007. Hezbollah also blames his killing on Israel.
