JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Foreign Ministry issued a travel advisory for citizens visiting Britain.

The advisory issued Wednesday because of rioting in the London area recommends that Israelis "be alert, avoid gatherings of groups of youths and areas of unrest, and obey police and other local authorities." The ministry did not go so far as to issue a more serious travel warning.

Britain’s Parliament was scheduled to interrupt its summer recess to hold an emergency session on the riots Thursday.

At least four people have died and 1,100 have been arrested in the riots, which began Aug. 6 following the shooting of an alleged drug dealer, Mark Duggan. The violence spread first to youth in poorer neighborhoods.

Observers believe that the riots are the result of a weak economy, widespread unemployment and deep budget cuts targeting the poorest communities.
