The full-length American Pie: Reunion trailer

So it’s been more than one quadrennium since an American Pie movie graced the big screen, which means it’s time for the gang, now adults with families and responsibilities, to get back together for one last hurrah. For the purposes of American Pie: Reunion, these class of 99ers are gathering for their high school reunion.

All of the actors are back for this final installment, including Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Chris Klein, Natasha Lyonne, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Seann William Scott and others. And of course, no American Pie movie, direct-to-DVD or otherwise, would be complete without Eugene Levy, who plays Jim’s dad.

All of the actors seem to have aged well but how have their careers fared? Back when the first movie came out, many were predicting bright careers for the young actors. Have any lived up to expectations?

Aside from How I Met Your Mother star Alyson Hannigan, who already had a strong fan base due to her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, none of the other actors seemed to have enjoyed more than a modicum of professional success. Reid became tabloid fodder for her partying plastic surgery. Lyonne has only recently begun to resurrect her career following troubles with substance abuse. Ditto for Scott, who also spent time in rehab. As for the rest–the best they’ve been able to manage are supporting roles in a smattering of movies.

I usually don’t offer assessments of stars’ careers when writing about their upcoming films, but it’s the nature of high school reunions, filmed or otherwise, that makes one want to judge.

So you’ve got my snap judgments about the cast. Please leave yours in the comments.
