JERUSALEM (JTA) — Five right-wing activists were indicted on charges of tracking the movements of Israeli troops in the West Bank.
The men also were charged Sunday by the Jerusalem Prosecutor’s Office with possessing classified military documents and planning an attack on an Israeli army base.
They were from Yitzhar and Machrasha in the West Bank and from Jerusalem, according to reports. They were arrested three weeks ago in Jerusalem.
The men are alleged to have set up a large network of informants, including active servicemen in the Israel Defense Forces, to track troop movements in order to determine when they might be planning to demolish illegal West Bank outposts. The group is alleged to be responsible for the Dec. 12 attack on the Ephriam Brigade army base in the northern West Bank.
Prosecutors asked that the five be held until trial.
