‘Linsanity’ almost made it to Tel Aviv

The hottest player in the NBA right now, New York Knicks’ point guard Jeremy Lin, was close to signing with Maccabi Tel Aviv over the summer, according to Israeli sports channel Sports 5.

Lin, a Taiwanese-American Harvard graduate, was in negotiations with Israel’s top basketball team during the NBA lockout but chose to keep his NBA dream alive and eventually signed with Houston Rockets, who ended up waiving him at the beginning of the season. The New York Knicks picked him up due to their lack of healthy guards.

Lin has turned out to be a big surprise for the Knicks. The 23-year old has been producing unusual numbers — averaging 27 points, 8.5 assists and four rebounds over his last four games as a starter game — setting off what sports journalists have dubbed "Linsanity.”
