(JTA) — Hadassah marked its centennial with a Shabbat service and rededication ceremony.
The service and ceremony on Feb. 24 was held at Temple Emanu-El in New York 100 years to the day since Henrietta Szold and a small group of women founded Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America.
Hadassah has launched a year of centennial anniversary celebrations, scheduled through the end of 2012, including a three-day milestone celebration in Jerusalem in October.
In addition to the ceremony at Temple Emanu-El, a new online exhibition, “Art at Hadassah,” features artworks at Hadassah sites in Israel, and 100 Hadassah members share their Hadassah memories and moments through contributions to "Thin Threads-Real Stories of Hadassah Life Changing Moments," a book commemorating how Hadassah has impacted the lives of individual members.
