JERUSALEM (JTA) — Rabbi Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg, who established the prominent Torah Ore yeshiva in Jerusalem, has died.
Scheinberg, who was known for wearing dozens of pairs of tzitzit at a time, died Tuesday at 101.
He opened Torah Ore in the new Kiryat Mattersdorf neighborhood in 1965. The yeshiva now has approximately 800 students.
Born in Poland, Scheinberg grew up in New York and moved to Israel in 1963. He had studied for five years at the prestigious Mir Yeshiva in what was then Poland.
