JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli windsurfer Lee Korzits won the Women’s RS:X competition ISAF Sailing World Championships in Spain.
By securing the gold medal in Cadiz on Wednesday, Korzits also guaranteed her spot at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She competed in the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.
It is the third time that Korzits has won the world title.
Korzits led throughout the championships. The last day of sailing was canceled due to rough weather.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Korzits from Israel shortly after the medal ceremony, saying that she "honorably and successfully represented both yourself and the State of Israel."
"I and all of Israel hope that you will also win a gold medal at the London Olympics," Netanyahu said.
