JERUSALEM (JTA) – Six of the 16 Beitar Jerusalem soccer fans detained by Jerusalem police for assaulting Arabs at a city shopping mall were banned from attending games.
The six who appeared Thursday in Jerusalem Magistrates’ Court may not attend games for the rest of the season and for the next two seasons. They are expected to be indicted next week for their actions at the Malha Mall two weeks ago.
Police had released the 10 others under restrictive conditions.
Hundreds of the team’s supporters had flooded the mall chanting anti-Arab slogans and assaulted Arab workers and patrons. Beitar Jerusalem fans have a reputation for violence and anti-Arab racism.
