Romney sweeps three GOP primaries

(JTA) — Mitt Romney won Republican presidential primaries in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Wisconsin, cementing his front-runner status.

Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, secured the victories Tuesday night and now has more than 600 delegates — more than double his closest challenger, ex-Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who has 300. Romney needs 1,144 delegates to secure the nomination.

Santorum vowed Tuesday night to continue to press forward with his campaign, saying that the primary race is only at its halfway point.
