Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals lined up like a post-game handshake to wish ‘Mazel Tov’ to two lucky D.C. twins for their Bar Mitzvah in July. Dan Steinberg gave a behind-the-scenes explanation via The Washington Post last week:
Shauli and Evyatar Guttman are twin brothers and huge Nats fans. Their mom thought it would be cool to surprise them with Bar Mitzvah greetings from the team.
Luckily, she’s dear friends with local filmmaker Aviva Kempner, who in turn is close with the Lerners. Kempner and CBS News’s Dan Raviv thus brought equipment to the Nationals Dream Foundation’s annual gala in June, and they asked the players (and Wolf Blitzer) to offer up their best Bar Mitzvah greetings.
“Everyone was so accommodating,” said Kempner, who I should mention is a personal friend of mine of mine. “They couldn’t have been more adorable. And everyone knew what a Bar Mitzvah was except [Chien-Ming Wang]. He had no idea what we were talking about.”
The film was also a nice tie-in opporunity for Kempner, whose Ciesla Foundation is re-releasing the award-winning documentary "The Life and Time of Hank Greenberg" (2000) in March 2013.
