Lena Dunham must sell 1 million copies of her upcoming book with Random House.

A multi-million dollar catch.

The Jewish actor and writer signed a mega deal with Random House Publishing last week for $3.7 million for her upcoming book, Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned, and although critics have been arguing that the deal is over the top, the expectations that come with it might be over the top as well: Dunham must sell 1 million copies.

Similar book deals have been issued to big Hollywood characters, such as Tina Fey, whose book Bossy Pants sold over 2 million copies, the Hollywood Reporter notes, and with Dunham’s fat package comes with the expectation that she will, and must, become the new Fey.

Let’s hope that the creator of HBO series, Girls can sell as many copies as she is expected, unlike Mindy Kaling, the female executive producer of The Office and star of The Mindy Project, who only sold 300,000 copies of her book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) in October 2011.

Don’t worry, Lena, we’ll buy your book!
