Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen was reported to be cast as the late lead singer of British rock band “Queen” Freddie Mercury two years ago, and now there is finally more information about the interesting project.

Last week, Queen guitarist Brian May (the man and the curls) posted an update about the film on his personal website

I promised news of yesterday’s Queen band meeting. Well, it was just Roger and Jim Beach and myself … we are a small cottage industry !! Our main agenda was the Freddie film … which, I’m happy to tell you, is on course. Much of our discussion was about contractual things … it’s pretty complex …. and determining who is responsible for what. The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule – filming is now scheduled to start in the Spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie. The film should be ready for release early in 2014.

Filming was set to begin back in 2011, only to be put on hold for “contractual reasons.” The film takes place in the mid-80s around the band’s “Live Aid” performance.

Freddie Mercuty died of the AIDS virus in 1991.

According to Huffington Post, rumors connect Katy Perry to the role of Mary Austin, Mercury’s longtime companion. Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming next film is the comedy “The Lesbian,” which is ” based on Hong Kong billionaire Cecil Chao, who offered a $65 million bounty to any man who could woo his daughter out of her same-sex marriage.”
