I read Jonathan Mark’s piece, “Season Of Yizkor” (Sept. 28) and couldn’t help but get emotional when I realized that he was writing, in part, about Matt Fenster z’l.
A few years ago, Matt and I worked together at an old white-shoe law firm in downtown Manhattan, where he helped establish a daily mincha minyan and was one of the regular attendees. Matt was one of a kind, and although we had lost touch over the years, I felt terrible when I heard of his illness and of his demise. He was a real mensch who always had a smile and cared tremendously about davening.
I am happy to see that the two Riverdale shuls got together to commemorate his yahrtzeit with a siyum (celebration marking the completion of studying a Talmud tractate), as he would, and I am sure is, having much nachas in heaven from this display of achdus (unity).
May his memory be a blessing.
