JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Likud government minister who said two weeks ago that he is quitting politics is deciding whether to establish a new party.
Polls show a new party headed by outgoing Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon garnering up to 20 Knesset seats in new elections.
Kahlon said he will decide in the next week whether to establish his own party.
A Kahlon-led party would likely support Benjamin Netanyahu for prime minister, but would oppose his social and economic policies, according to Haaretz.
During the recent Likud Central Committee convention, Netanyahu hugged Kahlon and said publicly: "Moshe you were born at the Likud, you’re staying at the Likud and you will help the Likud win the elections."

Meanwhile, former Kadima party head Tzipi Livni and former prime minister and Kadima head Ehud Olmert reportedly met Wednesday to discuss their political futures, including the possibility of running for Knesset together, according to reports.
