JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Jewish resident of eastern Jerusalem was stabbed in the back reportedly by two Palestinian assailants as he returned home from the Western Wall.
The man, who was taken to the hospital in stable condition, is a resident of the Jewish neighborhood of Maaleh Hazeitim, part of the Palestinian Ras al-Amud neighborhood. He was attacked Saturday in Ras al-Amud, a short distance from the gates of the Jewish neighborhood, following Shabbat services.
The attack is considered to be nationalistically motivated.
Some 30 residents of the Jewish neighborhood on Saturday night protested in the area, calling for more police protection.
On Sunday morning, Palestinian cars were vandalized in the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Shuafat in what appears to be a "price tag" attack.
The tires of six cars were slashed and spray-painted with Hebrew graffiti, including "price tag," "Death to the enemy" and "Knitted kippa," the latter referring to a West Bank outpost of that name that was evacuated late last week.
Price tag refers to the strategy that extremists have adopted to exact a price in attacks on Palestinians and Arabs in retribution for settlement freezes and demolitions, or for Palestinian attacks on Jews.
