(JTA) — Israeli author A.B. Yehoshua was awarded a prestigious French literary award.

Yehoshua on Tuesday was awarded the Medicis Prize for Translation for his novel "The Retrospective."

The book, published in Hebrew in 2011, was translated into several languages, including French, and will be published in English next year. It tells the story of an old filmmaker who visits Spain for a retrospective of his work and reconnects with a scriptwriter from his past. The encounter sends the filmmaker on a journey of reconciliation and reparation.

Yehoshua, who won the Israel Prize for Hebrew Literature and numerous other literary awards, is popular in France, where he lived for three years in the 1960s, according to the French news agency AFP.
