NEW YORK (JTA) — The University of Chicago Law School received a $1 million dollar gift to endow an annual visiting scholar from Israel.
The gift from David and Laureine Greenbaum announced Dec. 13 will bring one Israeli scholar to the law school each year for at least one academic quarter.
As with all the law school’s visitors, the Greenbaum visiting professor will teach courses at the law school, lecture at the college and fully participate in faculty life, according to a statement from the University of Chicago.
“The Greenbaum Visiting Professors will bring Israeli scholars of the highest caliber into our community to further broaden our perspective and promote long-lasting exchanges of ideas between our countries," said Michael Schill, dean of the law school.
Greenbaum, a 1976 graduate of the law school and president of the New York office of Vornado Realty Trust, and his wife, Lorraine, also an attorney by training, both serve on the National and Greater New York Boards of the Jewish National Fund, which Laureine Greenbaum currently serves as president. The couple was honored last year with the JNF Tree of Life Award.
