A group of connoisseurs recently enjoyed an early taste of Passover.

In advance of The Jewish Week’s annual Kosher Wine Guide, which appears as an insert in this week’s issue, and of the paper’s Grand Wine Tasting event, which will take place Sunday afternoon at the City Winery in Manhattan, a panel of eight wine experts gathered over three days last month at The Jewish Week’s office to evaluate, in blind tastings, more than 300 kosher wines.

The judges’ results determined the Top 18 lists in the Kosher Wine Guide. The kosher wine field is becoming more competitive, with a growing number of sophisticated varieties being produced, and more bottles sold each year.

The judges were Michael Dorf, owner of City Winery; Orr Reches, sommelier at Veritas; Aron Ritter of Kosher Wine Society; Miriam Morgenstern of Wine Spectator; Yanky Drew of City Winery; Alison Nathan of Abigael’s; Yossie Horwitz of Kosher Wine List, and Margo Bader of Cellar Master.

More than 30 vendors will offer their kosher fare at Sunday’s Grand Wine Tasting, at 155 Varick St. Tickets are $35 online or $40 at the door. (www.citywinery.com/newyork/tickets/jewish-week-wine-tasting-3-3.html).
