When I was 12, the East Coast-West Coast rap feuds were entering their lethal days. As an aspiring rap fan I was forced to make the tough choice between Tupac and Biggie.
The thought of meeting any of them wasn’t even a figment of my deepest (and most dangerous) fantasy. They were both dead by the time I turned 13. But nowadays, I guess it’s just easier to access the hottest names in hip hop, as 12-year-old Nathan Schwartz demonstrates.
Since he was six (which was only six years ago, but whatever), the Miami native has been going to rap concerts with his father. After the show, he made it a habit to meet the artists and take pictures with them, and later to upload it to his lively Instagram account (@natedoggschwartz).
A quick look at those photos reveals a goofy looking kid with an evolving jewfro and an awkward grin. Basically all of us when we were 12. Schwartz is just doing it better.
Vice interviewed him on Friday, and produced some gold. First of all, he has a bodyguard because he gets some threats (“if you don’t get me to meet Wayne imma fuk u up” and stuff like that. “It’s a cold world out there”) though he “respects the haters.” He also wants to be a big music executive, and most importantly, he never smoked with Wiz Khalifa (“Dude I’m 12 years old! I’ve been with him while he smoked. But I ain’t smoke.”)
Again, the boy is a hero. Check out the rest of the interview here.
