Michael Douglas’ 34-year-old son Cameron, who was sentenced to five years in jail in 2010 for heroin possession and conspiracy to distribute narcotics, is staying behind bars.
Yesterday, a federal appeal court upheld the New York judge’s decision to add the additional four years. According to E!, in the appeal, which was made in December, Douglas Jr.’s attourney Paul Shechtman, called his client’s new sentence “shockingly long” and “maybe the harshest sentence ever imposed on a federal prisoner for a drug possession offense.”
The U.S. Court of Appeals disagreed, and Judge Gerald Lynch said that Cameron is an example of a defendant who “has shown himself to be a poor candidate for treatment or leniency.”
Prior to his imprisonment, Cameron Douglas appeared in minor roles in several films.
