ONLINE EDITOR

SUMMARY: JTA, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, is looking for someone to make our digital properties pop. The person will work with other key staff to develop digital strategy and will oversee the day-to-day operations of our website, e-newsletters, video and audio, blogs and social media feeds. The ideal candidate will know what people want to read and how to sell it, whether it be breaking news, an interesting feature story or the latest pop culture buzz. He or she will also be familiar and comfortable with using analytics to evaluate and improve digital performance. We’re also looking for strong copy editing skills, familiarity with news issues affecting the Jewish community, the ability to work quickly and juggle multiple deadlines, and the flexibility to be a team player and fill in with other editorial duties when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Manage JTA.org: Select placement of stories on homepage, update website throughout the day to reflect breaking news and boost website “stickiness.”
  • Oversee and coordinate production of daily and weekly email products, including news, lifestyle and archive newsletters.
  • Oversee JTA’s engagement with readers on social media.
  • Aggregate content of interest to JTA readers from other news and entertainment sites.
  • Edit and write blog posts.
  • Pitch in with other editorial duties when necessary
  • Work with Audience Development director/analytics to evaluate and improve performance of digital properties

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Web savviness
  • Familiarity with news issues of Jewish interest and concern
  • Strong editing and writing skills
  • Ability to work quickly and juggle multiple deadlines
  • Keen editorial judgment

EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years journalistic experience
  • Online journalism experience

JEWISH AFFAIRS CORRESPONDENT

SUMMARY: JTA, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency is looking for a smart, experienced journalist to serve as our New York-based national Jewish affairs correspondent. The right candidate should be smart, quick and versatile, with an understanding of issues, organizations, personalities, and trends affecting Jewish life and the Jewish community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Beat reporting, including uncovering scoops on your beats
  • Identifying and developing compelling stories
  • Identifying and developing relationships with sources
  • Writing news and feature stories
  • Covering breaking news stories
  • Other duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with American Jewish issues
  • Excellent reporting and writing skills
  • Ability to work quickly and on deadline
  • An ability to ferret out good stories

EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years journalistic experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required

FEATURES WRITER

SUMMARY: JTA, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, is looking for someone who knows how to produce a steady stream of must-read must-share stories. He or she will be called upon to write profiles, human interest stories, and trend stories. In addition, our lead features writer should be able to write about arts & entertainment and have a knack for coming up with the compelling Jewish angle on the stories that everyone is talking about.. Familiarity with American Jewish life a plus. This position is based in New York, but we are open to a reporter based in another major American Jewish community.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Identifying and developing engaging stories
  • Other duties as needed

  • Excellent reporting and writing skills
  • Eye for great stories
  • Ability to write on a variety of topics and in a variety of styles
  • Ability to work quickly and on deadline
  • Familiarity with American Jewish issues

NEXT STORY
