(JTA) — An archive of 72 years of Detroit Jewish News editions went online.
The archive, which was funded by donors, contains more than 260,000 pages of the weekly newspaper dating back to its founding in 1942.
It is among the largest archives of its kind in America, both Jewish and secular, according to the Detroit Jewish News Foundation, which spearheaded the project. It will be updated with future issues of the newspaper.
The idea for the archive took root about a decade ago after a fire destroyed 60 years worth of back copies. The issues were backed up on microfilm at another location.
