(JTA) — Police in Brookline, Mass., have ended their investigation into the disappearance of teenager Caleb Jacoby after determining there was no criminal element to the case.
Caleb, the 16-year-old son of Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby, ran away on his own, police determined, according to Masslive.com. Caleb was found in Times Square in New York City on Jan. 9 more than three days after he went missing from his Boston-area home.
Hundreds of volunteers, including friends and neighbors of the family as well as members of local Jewish groups, searched throughout the Boston area in a coordinated effort. The effort was spearheaded by the Maimonides School, where Caleb is an 11th-grader.
Brookline police officer Ronnie McNeil told Masslive.com earlier this week that his department worked with the New York Police Department to locate the teen in Times Square. He also said he was not aware that there was any truth to news reports that the teen was seen in Providence, R.I.
McNeil called the efforts by the Maimonides School to find Jacoby “unbelievable.”
