Construction in eastern Jerusalem Jewish neighborhoods gets go-ahead

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Jerusalem municipality approved plans for the construction of 184 housing units in two Jewish neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem.

Private contractors in Har Homa and Pisgat Ze’ev will build the dwellings. The permits allow groundwork to begin on the projects, according to Haaretz. .

Israel views the two neighborhoods as places it would keep under any future peace deal with the Palestinians. Palestinian peace negotiators have called for a freeze on construction in the settlements in order to extend the current peace talks past the April 29 deadline.
