BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (JTA) — Argentina will build an outdoor monument in Buenos Aires to honor victims of the Holocaust.
President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner met Monday night with a delegation of Argentine Jewish leaders at the national government residence to announce the construction of the monument in Shoah Plaza, a public square inaugurated two years ago. Holocaust survivors also participated in the 50-minute meeting.
A start date has not yet been set for the construction.
Shoah Plaza is a green space located in Palermo public park in front of the King Fahd Islamic Cultural Center and mosque.
The city also is home to the Buenos Aires Shoah Museum, the first of its kind in Latin America.
