JERUSALEM (JTA) — About 200 people attended a protest in Tel Aviv against the Gaza operation despite police rejecting a permit for the rally.

The demonstration was held Saturday night in Rabin Square. Earlier in the day, Tel Aviv police said they would not allow the demonstration because of Home Front Command guidelines against allowing large public gatherings in cities targeted by rocket fire from Gaza.

Protesters’ signs read “Stop the massacre,”“Free Gaza” and “end the siege.”

About 20 counterprotesters waved an Israeli flag and sang Israel’s national anthem, according to Haaretz. They also reportedly shouted at the larger demonstration to go to Gaza. Police separated the two sides.
