Obama names U.S. delegation to opening of Poland Jewish museum

(JTA) — President Obama will send a presidential delegation to attend the opening ceremony of POLIN, the Museum of the History of the Polish Jews.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) will lead the delegation for the opening on Tuesday, the White House announced Friday.

Maloney will be joined by Stephen Mull, the U.S. ambassador to Poland; Ira Forman, the U.S. State Department’s special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism; Lesley Weiss, chairwoman of the United States Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad; Sharon Kershbaum, deputy assistant secretary of Treasury for Management and Budget; and Shoshana Lew, deputy assistant secretary of Transportation for Policy.

Standing on the historic site of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and facing the Monument of the Warsaw Ghetto Heroes, the museum is among the largest Jewish museums in Europe.
