(JTA) — The head of a U.N. agency has blocked a collection of Palestine posters from being included on a list of world heritage objects.
The poster collection, which was initially accepted by an advisory board of UNESCO’s International Memory of the World Register, was later blocked by Irina Bokova, the director general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the Times of Israel first reported on Wednesday.
Some of the posters praise armed resistance and terrorism, including venerating Palestinian suicide bombers and their attacks on Jews and Israeli civilians.
The posters “could fuel hatred and anti-Semitic perceptions,” Bokova said, according to the Times of Israel.
The collection includes some 1,700 posters celebrating the Palestinian national liberation movement. It is part of the larger Palestine Poster Project Archives.
UNESCO admitted Palestine as a full member in 2011, one of the first international bodies to recognize a Palestinian state.
