(JTA) — The window of a kosher cafe in London was smashed, perhaps by marbles, though it was unclear if the incident was motivated by anti-Semitism.
No one was hurt in the incident Wednesday afternoon at Orli Cafe in Edgware, a district of north London, The Jewish Chronicle reported on its website. There are no suspects.
The Community Security Trust, British Jewry’s main watchdog on anti-Semitism, said in a statement that an initial investigation suggested that a firearm had not been used on the cafe, which is also a kosher restaurant, and that the incident may not be connected to anti-Semitism. CST in a tweet said it was “not clear what type of weapon was used.”
According to some reports, marbles were hurled at the window.
Police in Barnet, the London borough comprising Edgware, said there had been four incidents of “windows being randomly shattered, possibly by marbles” and local officers were continuing their investigations, the Chronicle reported.
On Twitter, pictures from the scene showed a smashed window, but people could be seen still inside the restaurant.
Police, and in some cases army troops, were stationed outside Jewish institutions across Western Europe to beef up security following the deadly incidents last month in Paris that killed 17.
