Israeli wins best director award at Buenos Aires film fest

Nadav Lapid’s film, “The Kindergarten Teacher,” about a Tel Aviv teacher who becomes obsessed with a 5-year-old student poet, lost out for best film in the international contest.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (JTA) — Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid won for best director at the Buenos Aires Film Festival for “The Kindergarten Teacher.”

Lapid’s film,  about a Tel Aviv teacher who becomes obsessed with a 5-year-old student poet, lost out for best film at the international contest. Lapid received his award on Friday.

The Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival is one of the largest cinema contests in Latin America. More than 250,000 tickets were sold for the 17th edition, and nearly 450 films were shown in 23 venues during the 10 days of the festival, which ended Saturday.
