(JTA) — A Hamas terrorist died when a tunnel used by the armed group to smuggle fighters into Israel collapsed.
Two others were injured in the tunnel collapse, which a Palestinian source said occurred during “resistance-related activities” on Friday, i24 News reported.
Meanwhile, Hamas officials blamed the Islamic State for rockets fired into Israel on Wednesday night and claimed that the group was trying to push for another war between Israel and Hamas.
Israel launched missiles into the Gaza Strip on Thursday in response to two rockets fired from Gaza the previous night that landed in open areas near the cities of Ashkelon and Netivot.
“Even if Wednesday’s rocket fire into Israel was carried out by rogue groups affiliated with the Global Jihadist Movement, aiming to challenge Hamas’ regime, we hold Hamas responsible for everything that happens in Gaza and we will not tolerate any attempts to hurt our citizens,” Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Thursday.
