I was delighted to see the article and picture about our competition, The Norman E. Alexander Award for Excellence in Jewish Student Writing, and the 2015 winner, Maetal Gerson (“Aaron Copland Inspires Young Writer,” Oct. 23).
I just want to add that creative writing teacher Melody Mansfield has her entire class compete for the award, and her students have won two years in a row. That is a tribute to Ms. Mansfield and her students. And one small correction: Maetal did not win a “commemorative medal.” She won an inscribed silver medal. Thanks for the support of The Jewish Week in this national competition.
