(JTA) — Twenty-eight Muslim, Christian and Jewish teenagers from Jerusalem and throughout the United States took to Capitol Hill in support of a bill to encourage peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
The teens from the Kids4Peace organization were scheduled on Tuesday to visit 14 Congressional offices to show their support for HR 1489, a bill that would create an International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian Peace. The bill, co-sponsored by Reps. Joseph Crowley (D-NY) and Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.), will expand grassroots people-to-people efforts to build coexistence.
The teens also will meet with the staff of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The teens are in Washington to participate in the weeklong Global Institute, which began on July 27.
The delegation is meeting with scholars, grassroots activists and policymakers on Capitol Hill, at the State Department and the White House to encourage greater investment in interfaith cooperation and peace building, both in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and in the U.S.
They are scheduled to visit the White House on Wednesday.
Some 500 teens participate in Kids4Peace activities around the world.
