Re: “JFNA Dragged Into Bannon Debate” (Nov. 25).
The tone and tenor of this piece, particularly the unchallenged false claim by an unnamed JFNA spokesperson that the primary resistance they’ve gotten regarding [the appointment of Steve] Bannon is from [the pro-BDS group] Jewish Voice for Peace, plays right into their attempts to pretend that this is no big deal and sweep it under the rug.
The truth of the matter is that more than one-quarter of the membership of the Conference of Presidents of Jewish Organizations, along with local Jewish Federations and JCRCs representing a wide spectrum of sizes and geographic diversity, have come out forcefully to say that individuals who empower white nationalists should have no place in the White House.
These organizations are joined by thousands of other individuals, many of whom are lay leaders or volunteers in their local communities, whose concerns have been delivered via faxes that have clogged the main fax line of the Jewish Federations of North America and the offices of some of their senior lay leadership in recent days.
The lack of leadership of JFNA in addressing this issue is stunning, and The Jewish Week’s reporting on this issue does nothing to advance its mission to inform and inspire the Jewish community worldwide.
You can, and should, do better.
